Speaking of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story,’ along with the official teaser trailer and the mini-tease we got yesterday, here are the character posters Lucasfilm released today, showing off Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca and a new character, Qi’ra.
Solo: A Star Wars Story from Lucasfilm releases in theaters May 25, 2018.
By its own right, Star Wars incites excitement, both good and bad. Since George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney for what now appears to be a song, we have gotten two hugely popular episodes that continue to tell the Skywalker Saga and an origin story that told of the efforts to retrieve the Death Star plans. All three films have met with some level of criticism, but all have been well-crafted tales that carry on the tradition of special effects and spectacle that George Lucas started 41 years-ago this May.
An origin story about one of the greatest heroes in all the galaxy, Han Solo has been in the works since the sale occurred. Because of the behind the scenes turmoil regarding the departure of co-directors Chris Lord and Phil Miller, audiences throughout the vast, virtual world have been clamoring for months to get just a taste of what’s in store when the film releases Memorial Day weekend, 2018.
Audiences were treated to a mini-tease during the Super Bowl game gave us a glimpse. This slightly longer teaser shows us Alden Ehrenreich as the titular character. The few glimpses we get don’t give us as much charisma as Harrison Ford brought to the role, but it appears that from the few glimpses we do get, he is having fun. The special effects are solid as well. George Lucas wrote the character as an amalgam of himself and Ron Howard’s new film, with Solo’s tricks and need for speedas he tries to out run everybody, we’re in for a treat.
From a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan (“The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “The Force Awakens”) and Jon Kasdan, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Ron Howard, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emmanual. It stars Alden Ehernreich, Woody Harrellson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thande Newton, with music by John Powel, and as we learned late last night, a theme by John Williams, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will release in theatres on May 25, 2018.
