This past weekend, developer From Software opened their servers for players to stress test the new Dark Souls Remastered game set to release on the Xbox One and PS4 on May 25th. They had a couple of basic classes available and two “premium” classes. My personal favorite from the stress test was the Warrior of Sunlight, who uses heavy armor, a shield, and has the ability to hurl lightning at their foes. It doesn’t hurt that the warrior resembles my favorite Dark Souls character, Solaire.
I played through the network test with several classes and tried to explore and see what I could remember from my first playthrough of the original Dark Souls so many years ago. The game runs like an absolute dream with a smooth rate of 60fps and the lighting engine is superb. The more I played, the more I wanted to dig in. But of course, PVP was enabled for the test and within 30 seconds of booting the test up, I was invaded. It looks like the old meta of “sprint/backstab” is back and here to stay.
If this small chunk of Dark Souls Remastered is an example of what the rest of the game looks and plays like, then I cannot wait to get in there and die over and over and over and over.
Dark Souls Remastered will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on May 25th and later this summer on the Nintendo Switch.
